To recognize the great contributions Frank Norman had made to the Toronto Camera Club over the years, on December 8, 2008, members of his family joined a large number of Club members to dedicate the main auditorium in his memory. He had been the driving force behind the Club’s acquiring its own building, guaranteeing its financing at a time banks would not make unconventional loans to groups such as a camera club, renovating it from a grocery store into a three-level multi-functional space, and updating it again thirty years later. The siding he supplied from his lumber company now graces the auditorium walls. He had maintained his interest on the Club until his death this past summer.
Close friends Karl Reeser and Ralph Brunner spoke of Frank’s involvement in multiple club activities and his careful eye on its finances. They also spoke warmly of his friendship which overcame genuine differences of opinion. Frank’s daughter also spoke on how much the Club meant to her father. Wally Joyce, now our longest continuing member, joined President Gord McElroy to unveil the commemorative plaque naming the room the Frank Norman Auditorium.
