We have a great new presentation in the Powell Gallery (upstairs)
beginning on Monday March 1st, 2010 at 7:20 pm.
TCC new member Jan Wolanczyk is showing a selection of his images based on a quest to know more about his father's early life.
In his own words:
"In April 1940 my father (15), my aunt (18) and my grandmother were taken from their home, put on a cattle truck for 16 days and exiled to Kokpekty, Kazakhstan, 3600 km away. They never returned home.
Growing up I would sometimes hear snippets of memories of my father’s early life, of the house in which he was born, of the school and church he went to and the city in which he lived.
I resolved one day to go and photograph the city, to photograph the landmarks, streets and buildings he would have known as a child.
In April 2009 I undertook this journey, to place images to some of the stories I had heard. My father knew nothing of this trip until two weeks after I returned."
We know you will enjoy this show.
